Conference 2004 - "Global Ethics, Local Action - a Framework for New Zealand Investment"

The inaugural conference for the Council for Socially Responsible Investment was held in Auckland at the Waipuna Conference Centre, Mt Wellington, for one day on 1 March 2004.

The conference provided space and opportunity for individuals and organisations with a religious, environmental or morally responsible interest to:

  • describe their interests, issues and activities
  • discuss common themes, and explore ways in which they can work effectively together
  • describe spiritual, moral and philosophical drivers for socially responsible investment
  • learn and benefit from overseas experience

The discussion of local activities included a description of:

  • New Zealand religious, socially responsible and Government investment
  • sustainability issues in New Zealand
  • spiritual, philosophical and moral drivers

Speakers included:

  • Robert Howell ( management consultant, contract university lecturer; and company director)
  • Sr Patricia Wolf, Executive Director of the New York City-based Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR)
  • Helga Birgden, a founding member and Chairman of the Christian Centre for Socially Responsible Investment (CCSRI) www.ccsri.org.
  • Neil Vaney, Marist priest
  • Mark Bytheway, Director, CEO, Sustainable Investment Research Institute - SIRIS
  • Rob Cooper, Executive in Residence – Maori Health, Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences, University of Auckland
